Fifteen years ago, Jeff Young went from selling Caterpillar equipment for Mustang Industrial Equipment Company to becoming a founding partner of Enterprise Commercial Paving. This month we celebrate Jeff’s decision in February 2006 to take the leap into starting a small business — on the advice of close friends and family — and in an effort to grow and expand his construction expertise. In 2016, Jeff became the sole owner of what is now a family business.
Our first location was a small Houston warehouse on Glenmont Drive that could only hold one truck, and one piece of equipment. A close friend from Jeff’s Mustang days was ECP’s first salesman, and they were soon joined by equipment operators, and additional staff. As a growing business, we initially focused on small concrete and striping projects, but soon added asphalt and civil projects over the course of the first year. Our first job was a Hobby Lobby parking lot in Deer Park, owned and managed by Smithco Development.

Some of our early projects also included patchwork for asphalt parking lots and small concrete jobs, with Jeff getting muddy working alongside our crews. While we have expanded our offerings over the years, asphalt, concrete, site work and striping remain our core project base.
After a few years on Glenmont Drive, we quickly outgrew the space and purchased our current location on Stokes Street. “Our building now houses 14 office employees, supports 56 crew members, and holds a bit more than one piece of yellow iron,” Jeff points out.
As we look back on the last 15 years of business, we are thankful for our continued growth amid such challenges as the 2008-09 financial recession, Hurricane Harvey and now the COVID-19 pandemic. We are thankful for our long-standing friends, customers and loyal employees.
“A lot has happened in the Houston landscape since 2006, and we are grateful for our small business’ growth and perseverance,” Jeff said. “We look forward to another 15 years of growing our team and tackling new projects in the Greater Houston and surrounding areas.”
