Client Spotlight: Smithco Development

Feb 12, 2021

As Enterprise Commercial Paving celebrates our 15-year anniversary, we reflect on one of our longest-standing clients, Smithco Development. Tracy Marak, COO of Smithco, and Jeff Young, President of ECP have been close friends for many years.

Originally a real estate development company, Smithco was founded in 1964 by Jim Smith. In 2007, Jim Smith Jr. joined the family business and a decade later Tracy was promoted to chief operating officer after more than 30 years of experience and expertise managing office and retail properties.

When you look at ECP’s history, Smithco has been there from the beginning. From potholes to complete strip center renovations, Jeff and Tracy have formed a strong bond marked by doing good business along with many hunting and fishing excursions. ECP’s very first job was doing patchwork for a Hobby Lobby parking lot in Deer Park owned by Smithco. “We highly value our close friendship and business relationship with Enterprise Commercial Paving,” says Smithco COO Tracy Marak. “From our very first project 15 years ago to our most recent, they have provided highly skilled crews with the right expertise to support and improve our properties throughout Houston.”

With an expanded service line that now includes leasing, development, and management, Smithco has owned and managed more than 2 million square feet of retail and office property that is primarily located in the Greater Houston area. If you have ever been shopping at the Center at Bunker Hill, Echo Lane, or Champions Forest Plaza, you have crossed paths with a Smithco property. Their marque property at Echo Lane is the site of many great ECP projects including:
